About
Us
The National Association of Physical Activity
and Health (NAPAH) is a national not-for-profit corporation
committed to empowering Canadians in achieving optimum wellness
through physical activity and healthy lifestyles.
NAPAH is working to achieve this goal by networking and affiliating
with a diversity of groups, organizations and volunteers who
are strong advocates for public policies that support long-term
physical activity programs as primary prevention to combat the
increasing rates of non-communicable and chronic diseases such
as obesity, cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
|
Our Mission
Working with the various levels of government
(i.e. federal, provincial, local), NAPAH's mission is to empower
Canadians to achieve optimum wellness through physical activity
programs that promote long-term health.
|
Our Philosophy
In the past several decades billions
have been invested into Canadian healthcare and health promotion
initiatives, but the decline in our health is epidemically on
the rise every year, with the return on this investment being
profoundly poor. The primary cause for this epidemic is that
Canadians do not invest time to improve their own health and
do not use preventive education in a practical sense. We are
strong advocates of government policy to enforce public accountability
and responsibility to promote long-term health through daily
physical activity programs, whether at home, work or school.
It is clear that providing an abundance of government resources
and education without compliance and public action is frivolous,
and at the very least, not productive in advancing the health
of Canadians.
Regarding physical education for our children, our schools are
filled with outdated curriculums and unqualified physical education
instructors. A change is desperately needed to equip our schools
with qualified instructors who possess knowledge in developing
transferable skills that Canadian children can use as they grow
into healthy teenagers and then as adults who will become more
responsible for their own health. |
Our Goals
NAPAH's goals are to:
- deliver quality physical education programs to effectively
develop transferable skills from childhood to adulthood.
- foster nation-wide partnerships and relationships for advocacy
and support.
- demonstrate the effectiveness of investing in prevention and
healthy lifestyle initiatives to combat chronic disease
- ensure 300 minutes of weekly effective physical education
is implemented in all schools across Canada.
- promote the growth and development of effective physical activity
initiatives through all levels of government
- create an incentive and reward system for physically active
Canadians

Our Vision
It is our vision to one day see physical activity
as a primary tool in the prevention of chronic disease and an
integrated part of our lifestyle.
